Islamabad: Top Pakistani political leaders have expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the tragic crash of an Air India passenger aircraft near Ahmedabad, India, which has reportedly claimed over 200 lives.
Pakistan Muslim League President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer his condolences, stating:
“My heartfelt condolences to the families of the precious lives lost in the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. This devastating loss transcends borders and reminds us of our shared humanity. My deepest sympathies to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended his condolences via social media, expressing solidarity with the grieving families:
“Saddened by the tragic crash of Air India flight near Ahmedabad today. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims grieving this immense loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.”
Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari voiced his sorrow over the incident, sharing:
“Saddened to hear a tragic incident occurred earlier today. Where an Air India flight with approximately 240 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad, India. I express my profound condolences to the people of India.”
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also offered his condolences in a post on X:
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic crash of #AirIndia Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of all aboard. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed grief over the loss of lives in a separate message:
“Saddened at the crash of Air India flight in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Condolences over the loss of precious lives in this tragic incident. Our sympathies are with the families of the victims in this hour of grief.”
The tragic accident occurred earlier today when an Air India aircraft en route to London crashed into a doctors’ hostel building shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat. Indian media reports confirm over 200 fatalities so far, with fears of the toll rising. The aircraft was reportedly carrying 242 passengers, including crew, and the crash site is in a densely populated residential area.
